  4. 1/2 tsp red chili powder or to taste

  7. 2-3 Tbsp chopped Coriander leaves
  8. For Tadka:-
  9. 1-2 Tbsp oil or ghee
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  11. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  12. 1-2 pinch hing/ asafoetida
  13. 6 large garlic cloves sliced
  14. 2 dried red chilies chopped
  15. 6-7 curry leaves

Instructions to make to make Yellow Split Moong Dal Tadka.

  1. Clean and Wash the yellow moong dal. Then soak in 2 cups of water for 30 minutes. After half an hour, drain the water from Dal.
  2. Take a pot. Add dal, 2 & 1/2 cup water, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt in the pot and bring it to boil.
  3. While the dal is boiling, reduce the gas to medium-low flame and cook till dal becomes very soft and the mixture thickens. This takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Add 1/2 cup water if required to adjust the consistency of dal. The dal should be cooked properly.
  5. For Tempering/ Tadka:-
    Heat oil in a Tadka pan over medium flame. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  6. When mustard seeds start crackle then, add asafoetida. Then add the chopped garlic and dried red chillies and saute for a few minutes until the garlic is light brown.
  7. Then add curry leaves and saute for a few seconds. Turn off the gas.
    Pour hot Tadka in the dal.
    Simmer for 5 minutes or until Dal combine well.
  8. Add chopped coriander leaves. Now squeeze 1 tsp lemon juice and stir. Cook for 1 minute. Turn off the gas.
    Tadka split moong dal is ready.
  9. Optional:- If you want to add tomato, you can add 1 chopped tomato while cooking moong dal.
  10. Or add while doing tempering alongwith red/green chillies and cook till tomato is mushy. Then add curry leaves and pour this tomato Tadka into cooked dal.
  11. Serve hot Tadka Dal along with chapati or rice.
